Palakkad: A house was partially gutted in a heavy thunderstorm yesterday evening in Olavakod. Although the damage was worth lakhs of rupees, a major disaster was avoided as there were no people in the house.
The house owned by जयप्रकाष्ट्स was struck by lightning at Puthanpura near Olavakode railway station. Gaffoor, who lives as a tenant in this house, got burnt completely with household appliances and electronic equipment including fridge. The walls and roof of the house are partially damaged.
Suspected Short Circuit
No one was at home for the past two or three days. Ghafoor and his family had gone to his daughter's house. The first people to see the house on fire were those who came to supply cooking gas this afternoon. The information about the accident was not revealed because it was inside the house.
Preliminarily, the cause of the accident is believed to be a strong short circuit due to lightning. Valuable furniture and electronic equipment including sofa were completely burnt.
